Shawn grew up camping. I did not. Henry and Nicholas have camped a lot with the scouts, along with Shawn. But we have never camped together as a whole family and we thought it was high time we did. This summer we had to cancel both our planned vacations and our trip to Missouri in the spring, so we hadn't been away from the house as a family since last summer and after months of quarantine, were feeling the need - but wanted to stay socially distant and safe. So we chose to camp just about 45min away on Lake Allatoona. It was a fantastic experience! Yes, it was hot! But being near the water was the key! Our camp site was a 1 min walk to the beach so we spent a lot of time in the water. We also got in some good fishing and campfire meals. Genevieve was with us of course which made it all the sweeter! I would call the first camp out a success!
Here's some pics of our campsite - an 8 man tent plus a 2 man that Henry set up and stayed in by himself.
Some peaceful reading time in nature
Brotherly knot tying lessons
Nicholas loves to whittle
Fishing!
The big (and only) catch of the weekend by guess who....Mr. Henry the fisherman! Grandpa would be proud!
Swimming in the lake
Lake beach fun
Foil packets....

Doing dishes outside is always more fun!
Roasting hotdogs another night
With campfire nachos in the dutch oven..mmm!
And what would a camping trip be without Smores! (unfortunately I didn't get a pic of the dessert we made the other night...dutch oven peach cobbler....it was gobbled up too quickly!)
