This year we ended our summer with a trip to the Great Smoky Mountain National Park. We stayed in a VRBO mountain cabin (called God's Gift") outside of Gatlinburg, TN. It was spacious, comfortable, and had a beautiful view of the mountains!

Henry got to bunk in this room with the tub and best view of the mountains
Grace stayed on the pull out in this living room
Nicholas and Sam shared this room

Day 1: In the morning we explored Cade's Cove - this is a narrow 11 mile loop through a stunning valley that perfectly captures the beauty and history of the Great Smoky Mountains. It was once a thriving community, complete with log cabins, churches, and grist mill. Much of this is now preserved and through it we learned all about the history of the area.
We saw a TON of wildlife on this trip - here is one of many wild turkeys we saw!
lots of deer
On the afternoon of the Day 1 we went tubing on the The Little River based on out of the Townsend, NC side of the park. The highlight of this was for sure the "jumping rock" which all 4 of the kids jumped off of multiple times, and they even got Shawn and I to do it once!
That evening we had a fantastic dinner in Townsend at The Peaceful Side Social restaurant - great food, scenery, live music, and outdoor games while waiting.
