Sea Base - Scout High Adventure !

In scouting there are 4 "High Adventures" - super cool destinations where you go and learn and use your scouting skills and learn new ones - this year - as his 8th grade graduation gift - we gave Nicholas the opportunity to go to his first one - Sea Base.  Shawn happily went along as a chaperone.  2 adults (Shawn and the Scoutmaster Mr Gruver) took 6 boys on this high adventure in the Florida Keys.  The first day, before actually checking in to Sea Base, they visited an Alligator farm and went on an air boat ride.  Then they checked in to Sea Base where they were given their instructions and met their Captain.  The next morning they left for 2 nights and 3 days on a sailboat.  They learned to set and adjust the sails, how to chart the course, guide/drive the boat, take anchor watch at all hours of the night, and how to live on a boat as a sailor.  The also got some fishing and snorkeling in while on the boat.  Then they spent 2 days on land at the base, fishing, paddle boarding, kayaking, snorkeling, and just having a great time with everything water based.  One day they also got some conservation hours by picking up trash in a mangrove forest.  It was an amazingly cool and fun trip of a lifetime and we are so happy Nicholas and Shawn were able to share this special time together!
Ready to fly out - delayed flights prevented them from visiting Everglades National Park - but they did eventually arrive safe and ready to have a great time.

This is the boat they would sail on

Nicholas was the only boy who got the chance to drive the boat with all the sails up!

They ate well - making and cleaning all their meals - unfortunately no fish caught to grill up though!
