First Day of Preschool

This year Grace is in PreK (4's) and Henry is in 3 yr old preschool.  They both attend St. Peter Chanel Preschool, Grace 4 mornings a week, and Henry 3 mornings a week.  They were both very eager to start "school" this year!  I had some lingering hugs from both on the first day, especially Henry, however no tears!  And they've been having so much fun so far!
Success!

Samuel 10 Months Old

Samuel had a great month!  He's crawling faster, standing more and getting into everything, but he's also sleeping better and eating better!  So we are happy!  He has transitioned to sleeping in his crib at night and for naps and now usually just wakes once a night.  He also finally seems to have an appetite for people food, certainly preferring to feed himself table food instead of eat baby food, though he does do both now.  He remains super active, so that even just changing his diaper these days is a battle.  He particularly loves to pull up on and stand at anything he can.  He cruises along the furniture and has started walking with push toys for a few steps. He has even stood on his own for a few seconds a few times.  He seems fearless and thinks he is capable of doing more than he can I think.  He has learned how to open cabinets (his new favorite thing to do) and drawers and can empty them in no time!  He bounces back and forth as if dancing when he hears music and he has learned to wave hi/bye to you (so sweet!!)  with a whole arm motion.  His favorite person to wave to is himself in the mirror, just beaming and giggling when he does :-)  He answers to his name and understands the word NO.  He has started saying Mama a little, usually when he is upset, then he calls for me :-(  He still mostly babbles Dada happily all day.  He loves to turn pages in books and play with balls.  He really likes the Wheels on the Bus book.  He understands and likes to play cause and effect games like "if I drop this paci, you will pick it up" kind of thing.  He had his first trip to the beach/ocean this month and loved both.  He is always happy in water.  We can't believe how quickly he is growing and how much he is learning lately!  He is such a joy in our lives!!

Finally a happy face at dinner

At our hotel in Hilton Head, he just loved talking to this baby in the mirror

Such a happy baby!  You make us happy Sam!

First Day of First Grade

Nicholas started first grade this week!  He was excited to get back to school as he missed his friends and also just loves to learn.  Have a great year, sweetheart!!

First grade here I come!

Henry and Nicholas really bonded a lot this summer and I think Henry was sad to see Nicholas go to school and leave him at home :-(  He begged me to let him wear clothes like Nicholas on his first day and to have his picture taken too like Nicholas. #warmsmyheart

Summer Fun

We had a great summer this year, with the first half basically spent at home enjoying the simple pleasures of summer (swimming, puppet shows, library visits, scouting events, playground and picnic days, lots of book reading and playing at home, and playdates with friends) and the second half spent traveling (to Missouri and Hilton Head) and having company (Heidi's family).  It was a great balance and now I think we are all ready to get back into the swing of the school schedules and fall activities.  Here's a few random pictures from our fun summer......
Swimming day at the Nicolosi's

Playdate at the park with Grace's best friend Anna

The Cub Scout Bike Rodeo....a fun day for the whole family to participate in various biking activities

Ready to watch a puppet show

Our favorite puppet show of the season was Sleeping Beauty...the marionettes and scenery were amazing!

Beating the heat by getting to the playground before 8:00am!!

Nicholas joined the Lego Club at our local Lego store this year.  Once a month he has been going and making the "mini build" and then filling his box with any Legos he wants and creating something with them.

Here he is presenting his custom creation to the group

We visited Holy Spirit Monastery, about an hour away.  We learned all about the monks and the prayerful hardworking life they lead.  We also soaked in the Lord's beauty while hiking around the expansive grounds surrounding the monastery.

Checking out a fun new Aquatic Center, complete with a lazy river which the kids loved!

Nicholas and Shawn went on their first Cub Scout hike, at the Roswell Mill

So glad Nicholas and Joey can share in the scouting experience

So long summer......it's been a blast!!!!

Happy 7th Birthday Nicholas!!!

This year Nicholas once again chose to bring a friend and go to Legoland, ATL for his birthday celebration.  His good buddy Joey came along for the fun.  We spent the whole morning there building cars and racing them down ramps, riding rides, climbing and building with huge bricks, and learning all about how Legos are made.  Nicholas then chose to have lunch at a hotdog joint.  Then while the little ones went home for a nap, Daddy took Nicholas, Joey and Grace to see the movie Inside Out.  We finished the day up with a little party at home with the Boyle family, complete with pepperoni pizza and spinach salad (Nicholas' requests for his meal).  I tried something new and made a Lego cake with alternating layers of chocolate cake and mint chip ice-cream.  I think our big 7 year old had a fantastic day!  Happy birthday buddy!
