Covid 19 hits the Pinto home

For Thanksgiving, we had planned to spend the whole week in Missouri....God had other plans for us.....Out of an abundance of caution, I had scheduled Covid Tests for our whole family 4 days before we were scheduled to leave.  Ironically, on the day the test was scheduled,  Shawn started feeling really bad with extreme fatigue, body aches and shaking chills....long story short - he tested positive and the rest of us tested negative....we strictly quarantined our family at home (kids switched to virtual school) and Shawn quarantined to the basement in hopes of keeping the rest of us from getting it.  This is how we spent Thanksgiving and the 2-3 weeks surrounding it.  Shawn had mild flu/cold like symptoms up until day 10 when he developed such a bad cough that it became hard for him to breath.  He went to the ER and was admitted with bilateral Covid Pneumonia.  He was hospitalized for 4 days during which time he was treated with antivirals, steroids, oxygen, and convalescent plasma...and a ton of prayers from family and friends.  Thanks be to God he improved and came home to continue to recover which took all of 5-6 weeks to fully recover.  During our time of quarantine I developed mild symptoms and each of the kids did too, though much more mild - we think we all ended up having it in varying degrees.  Our family was overwhelmed with so many prayers, meals, grocery deliveries, cards, etc.  The silver lining in this horrible virus is too see how much good there is in so many people!  We are so thankful Shawn is now healed and our family is healthy and safe again.  We saw first hand how quickly the illness can progress and how it is no joke!  We continue to pray for all those affected and for an end to the pandemic!!!

Before he got really sick, Shawn made the most of his down time and helped the boys with merit badges through the glass.

Shawn was still quarantined to the basement on Thanksgiving (he was admitted to the hospital the next day) so he joined our family dinner via Zoom

Thanks to inspiration from my sister Mindy, every night after dinner during November we each wrote something we were thankful for on a pumpkin.  On Thanksgiving Day we read aloud each of the things......especially grateful for Shawn's recovery this year!!!
