July 6-11 Henry attended the Wingfoot running camp put on by Atlanta Track Club at the University of Alabama - Huntsville. He roomed with his 3 good friends from Alpha Crush, William Brown, Maddox Smith Spain, and Maddox Versagi. They took the charter bus there and back. Their good friend Reece Vagedes was also there that week. Each day they ran morning and afternoon and in between had classes about training, nutrition, etc, as well as inspirational talks from accomplished runners and some fun time playing volleyball etc. Henry said it was one of the best weeks of his life! He learned a ton about running, met a lot of great people, had a lot of fun with his friends, and got some great runs in! He was originally placed in group 4 but was quickly moved up to group 2 when his speed was seen - this made his the only middle schooler in the first 4 groups - he was primarily running with varsity runners from elite programs like Marist and Star's Mill. He was even awarded the "Transfer portal" award at the end :-)
The morning we were to bring him to the bus, we had to bring Shawn and Nicholas to the airport very early first, so Henry and I used the few hours in between to treat him to his first ever Cracker Barrel dining experience - he was not disappointed :-)
He and William got these cool singlets! So glad for this friendship!
The last day they ran through a cave!
