This is Nicholas' third year being on an Odyssey of the Mind team and Grace's first year. They are each on different teams and have really been enjoying it so far this year. It's a huge time commitment - weekly meetings all school year long, and then from January on there have been lots of weekend sessions in addition to projects they work on at home. But they have learned a lot, from using power tools, to building zip lines and robots, to trying 3 different ways to make a costume, to team work and problem solving, it's been a good and full experience so far. All this work is put forth to prepare for competition. The regional competition was held the first weekend in March. Grace's team competed in the Division 1 networking problem and earned second place!! Nicholas' team competed in the Division 1 balsa wood problem and also won second place! Our school had 7 teams in all and everyone of them did well enough to make it to the next round - State Competition, which is absolutely amazing. Unfortunately the State competition had to be cancelled due to the Corona Virus outbreak. We are currently praying for an end to the spread of Covid 19, for all obvious reasons and most important reasons, but also in hopes that all the kids' hard work in Odyssey can perhaps be showcased again at competition...
