The flame of the Peace Light has burned continuously for over a thousand years and originated at the Church of the nativity in Bethlehem, the site of Jesus' birth. It is transferred lantern-to-lantern from Tel Aviv, to Austria, to New York City. Then volunteers of all faiths and walks of life (but largely aided by the Boy Scouts of America) meet, share, and move the flame from NYC across America, person-to-person, coast-to-coast. This year, Shawn took the initiative to get the light and bring it to our parish and school community. He organized a weekend at the church where the scouts stood vigil with the light in the chapel after all masses so families could come and get the flame to bring back to their homes. He also brought it to the school to share with QA families on the day of the Nativity play. We kept the flame burning continuously in our home through the Christmas season up to the feast of the Epiphany. The Peace Light is symbolic of the Light of Christ, especially evident at Christmas, and is meant to promote peace, harmony, and unity among people of the world.
