Well this has been the Lentiest Lent we have ever Lented!!! Who would have ever guessed we'd be sacrificing, not just sweets and TV, but due to the Covid-19 Pandemic, we've had to give up going to school, going to mass, seeing our friends and family, our travel and vacation plans, and all Mom's PTO time, just to name a few!!! But God certainly works in mysterious ways, and it always seems that the greatest sacrifices and challenges in our lives, bring about the greatest and deepest joys in the end. This Lent and Holy Week, while we were deeply saddened to not be able to travel to Missouri to be with family for spring break and Easter a we had planned, we did enjoy blessed and fruitful family time, praying and playing together. Here are some snip-its of our Holy Week, social distancing style......
| Palm Sunday - kids made construction paper palms and we processed around the house waving them before watching mass on the computer. |
| We hung green "palm branches" from our front door as a sign of solidarity with the rest of our parish on Palm Sunday. |
On Holy Thursday, the kids each created their own Last Supper craft. We did wash each other's feet as well during the TV mass but I didn't catch a picture of that.
| Good Friday, we acted out our own stations of the cross - Henry organized it all! |
| Henry was Jesus, Samuel was a solider and Simon, Nicholas was Pilot and a soldier, Shawn was a narrator, and Grace didn't want to act but wanted to narrate so I was Mary/Veronica/Women. |
| Simon helping Jesus carry his cross |
| On Holy Saturday, we decorated Easter eggs |
| Our Easter Tree :-) |
| On Holy Saturday we also enjoyed a 6ft away visit from the Ratliff family - continuing on the mission trip tradition of knocking on doors to ask for prayer intentions to attach to a cross. So nice!!! |
| During the week, we delivered a few surprise care packages for other families. |
| And the kids used spray chalk to write inspirational messages on the road and driveway. |
| We heard the great news that Samuel was accepted for kindergarten 2020-2021 at Queen of Angels! |
| We planted Henry's garden |
| Shawn delivered Girl Scout cookies to the nurses at the hospital, thanks to generous donations of the Schoenecke and Schupp families. |
